ToTo Sleep

The wearable device that tells you when your baby is naturally ready for bedtime! Toria Fullerton founded ToTo Sleep in 2016 when trying to find a good sleeping routine for her daughter. After thoroughly researching medical journals on how to make bedtime an easier process for parents and having very little success. However Toria came across a biometric system that wasn’t being used and went on to use this for the biometric wearable.

Product

The ToTo Sleep wearable is a biometric sleep aid for infants.

The wearable device has been created to track children’s fatigue and activities throughout the day, to make it easier for parents to know when the best opportunities are to put their children to bed. The device has a specific algorithm that is connected to an app allowing the tracking of data easier to gather and follow.

This device is targeted at children from 6 to 12 months however it can be used for children above this age range.

Challenges & Solutions

The creation of the second iteration of this product presented a few challenges which the team at Invent Design Build eagerly met head on to overcome. One of the first challenges was sourcing alternative components in the midst of a global component shortage.

The alternative components had to: meet the requirements of the project; could be used with the existing design with minimal changes in addition to the changes requested by the client; and could be sourced without causing delay to the project timeline. Invent Design Build’s solution was to search for alternatives; aiming to source the clients’ preferred component but having a backup should the need arise. Fortunately, in this case, the preferred components could be Found and enough were ordered immediately to enable the prototype build.

Due to the sleek and miniature redesign of the enclosure, this presented a layout challenge due to the high component density and low-profile components. To meet this challenge, significant thought was put into the location of key components. Component manufacturers were engaged to source the most suitable, low-profile component, such as connectors.

Manufacturing costs for low quantity prototype builds can present a challenge to start-ups initially developing their idea. A manufacturer who could build small prototype quantities was identified that offer building one or two of the initial prototype to test before investing in larger volumes; invaluable in the early stages of product development.

From helping them to run proof of concept using their new product; to identifying the relevant standards their product must meet, to putting the product through approvals; we are excited to move forward with our client, supporting them in their product development journey.
